Marjorie C. LaFont received an Associate degree in Home Economics Education from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas and a Bachelor's in Home Economics Education from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. She received a Master's in Food and Nutrition from the University of Illinois.
LaFont is a member of the American Dietetic Association, the Illinois Dietetic Association, the Central Illinois Dietetic Association, both the Illinois and National Association of Consumer & Family Science, the Society Nutrition Education and the American Heart Association.
She has received numerous awards including the Recognized Youth Dietitian of the Year, M.S. William Innovative Program Award, the Distinguished Service Award, TV Communications Award and Peer Award from the National Association of Extension Home Economists, the Outstanding Home Economics Adviser Awards, the Illinois Extension Peer Award, the Team Award from the University of Illinois Extension, Love a Child Award from the Tri County Child Abuse Prevention Council, the Bill Houlihan Advocate for Children Award, WEEK-TV Hometown of the Week (June,1999) and the 1998 Community Health Nominee.
LaFont is active with the American Heart Association, Central Illinois Breastfeeding Task Force, Network Panel Youth Services, Healthy Moms-Healthy Kids Advisory Council, SHARE Food Board, Peoria Area Anti-Hunger Coalition Board, University United Methodist Church-Church & Society Commission, Head Start Health Advisory Council, Senior Meals Advisory Council, Head Lice Task Force and the Tri County Child Abuse Prevention Council.
